With AIEEE
2012 just round the corner, students are stressed. In an
attempt to put students' stress on the backburner and preparations
best practices on top, Ritu Chandna from Learnhub speaks to Aakash
Chaudhary, Director, Aakash Educational Services Limited. In
conversation, Aakash gives tips to decode the path of success in
AIEEE 2012 besides talking about the exam
pattern, expected type of questions, subject-wise important tips
and offers last-minute exam instructions. Aakash also throws light
on how AIEEE 2012 online test takers
prepare.
Can you throw some light on the
expected exam pattern AIEEE
2012?
AIEEE in the previous years has shown
surprises for students but, AIEEE 2012
will be dominant with Single Answer Type Questions. The examination
has however shown deviations from pattern in the past by including
Reading Comprehension questions and sometimes Assertion Reasons,
where the former are themselves single answer questions but the
latter constitute questions with reasoning ability. AIEEE 2012 will have single answer questions mainly
but one should undoubtedly prepare questions like more than one
answer, reading comprehension and assertion reason too.
To get a better picture let us just analyze the trend followed
by AIEEE in 2011. The AIEEE 2011 paper was of 3 hours and there were 90
questions weighing 360 marks in total. The exam appeared in four
versions - P, Q, R & S. The subject order and the choices were
jumbled up in all four versions. Each subject had 30 questions with
4 options.
The Physics paper had 3 questions of assertion-reason type. In
Mathematics there were 5 assertion-reason type questions and no
reading comprehension were seen. Chemistry was rather different
with neither assertion-reason nor any reading comprehension
questions, as every year valid answers carried 4 marks and
incorrect answers were penalized (-1) in view of negative
marking.
Now keeping in mind the previous year pattern we should not
expect a major deviation but yes Assertion Reason need to be
stressed upon.
How is preparing for AIEEE different from preparing for IIT JEE
exam?
Although the syllabus for both examinations are same but yes
IITJEE stresses more on the depth of a
topic whereas AIEEE is more centric on
superficial information. Both examinations have a similar scheme of
study but the foundations are different. As an advice for
AIEEE, practice lots of questions from
different areas of a chapter. For IITJEE
areas of gross importance are rather limited but different variety
of questions in an area are stressed upon. Read more and practice
more variety of questions for AIEEE,
that's how success in AIEEE is
materialized.
How should students beat the exam
stress?
Examinations are not tools of torture. These are basic level
qualification tests that calibrate a student’s eligibility to
make it to the top engineering colleges all over the country. The
main way to beat stress is CONTINUITY. Do
not miss classes, make regular notes and revise and practice on a
daily basis. Much before the examination you are likely to be all
set and prepared for it. Timely preparation pays. Organized methods
of study include filing up your test papers, solving them properly
and getting all your queries cleared well in time.
Additionally, practicing yoga, good stretching exercises relieve
you of unwanted stress accompanied with studies. Eat healthy and
take good adequate sleep to keep your concentration levels up to
the mark. These peripheral methods shall relieve one of stress only
if work is not pending and your diligence is coupled with honesty,
hard work and faith!
Please suggest some last-minute tips to
ace these entrance exams?
Don't read anything new at the last moment. It is important to
read only those areas in a chapter where your confidence levels are
low. Now, the major tact at the last minute is to keep on
practicing mock tests by giving yourself limited time for a paper.
More the number of questions you practice the better you keep
becoming. Remember that most questions have a connection between
each other so more the number of questions you've practiced the
more likely it is to find a logical connection with the one you see
in the paper. Reading is to practice of questions should be in a
ratio of 1:4 at the last minute.
What are the subject-wise important
topics for AIEEE?
Needless to specify that, the entire syllabus is important and
all chapters equally respected in the examination, but looking at
the previous years we do find fertile areas from where questions
more commonly appear. This should not be taken as a pretext for not
reading other chapters but considered to be a smart approach rather
than a hard approach towards attempting the paper. Let us go
subject by subject,
Chemistry: Important areas in Physical
Chemistry include; Electrochemistry, Kinetics, Gases, Solid State,
Solutions, Equilibrium and Thermodynamics. As far as Organic
Chemistry is concerned, Hydrocarbons, Alcohols, Phenols, Aldehydes
and Carboxylic Acids are important. In Inorganic Chemistry read
Coordination Compounds, p-Block (Specifically Group 13, 14 and 15
with Oxygen and Halogens).
Physics: Electrostatics, Heat &
Thermodynamics, Magnetism, Newton's Laws, Modern Physics and Waves
are significant from an AIEEE point of
view
Mathematics: Calculus, Trigonometry, Algebra,
Coordinate Geometry, Probability, 3-D and Vectors are important
from an AIEEE Stand-point.
Do exam toppers prepare differently for
these exams? If Yes, How?
Examination toppers are in very subtle ways different from
others. The approach and mode of study is well defined with a
backup plan for most instances. Exam toppers are not genius or
extraordinary, they have just approached the examination with their
organized work and regular practice. Remember, it may not be
difficult to work diligently for a day but it takes your honesty
and will to sustain that work for an year. Toppers in most cases
are able to sustain their work and show good achievement on a daily
basis. Just lift your confidence and sustain your work with your
will and honesty and see yourself becoming a topper too!
How should the preparations be for an
AIEEE online test
taker?
It always helps to take tests online but the academic
preparation requires no separate arrangements. The scheme for
online tests is practically similar to a paper based test just that
you need to mark answers by clicking on the correct option on a
computer screen rather than darkening on an OMR Sheet. Realistically any student with basic
knowledge of computers will be comfortable in giving the test. So,
just prepare for the examination with full zeal and do not worry
about the online test. It's easy and none different from our usual
examinations.
