Difference between IIT JEE and AIEEE

by Pritika Ghura

Every year lakhs of students across the country take various engineering entrance exams to get admission in their desired engineering college. While most students aspire to study in prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology, there are many other reputed engineering colleges that feature in students' wish list. It is for this reason that many students take both IIT JEE and AIEEE every year to turn their dreams of studying in a prestigious engineering institute a reality.

AIEEE and IIT are both engineering entrance examinations in India. AIEEE is the short form of All India Engineering Entrance examination, whereas IIT JEE stands for Indian Institute of Technology Joint Entrance Examination. Students preparing for both these exams usually get confused on how to prepare for them as they don't know the difference between the two. Let's check out the difference between JEE and AIEEE-:

Criteria IIT JEE AIEEE
Purpose Every year, IIT's conduct their own entrance examination at national level for entrance into 15 IIT's located in different cities of the country. AIEEE is an exam conducted by Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for entrance to various National Institutes of Engineering and Technology and other local engineering colleges.
Duration IIT-JEE is a six hour test. AIEEE is a three-hour examination
Number of Questions JEE includes 120 to 150 questions The number of questions asked could range from 105 to 115
Level of difficulty IIT JEE examination is considered to be tough and requires enough preparation to get a good score AIEEE is considered relatively easy as compared to others
Focus A deep understanding of concepts is a must for clearing JEE. JEE requires you to have strong command on fundamentals to be able to crack tough questions that may be presented in an indirect manner. Hence, it looks more complex than it actually is. AIEEE stresses on accuracy and speed. To clear AIEEE paper, coverage of the total syllabus, tricks to solve questions quickly and memory play an important role.

Sir, I'm student of class XI. I also want to attempt engineering exams. How should I prepare for these entrance exams. Is coaching necessary to attempt exams or self- study is sufficient? What is the % of Physics, Chemistry, Maths in these exams. Which topics are most important? Please tell me.
