In an attempt to keep non-serious students out of the admission
process in prestigious engineering colleges of the country, there
have been some changes and refinement made in the
AIEEE counselling and
admission process. These modifications have been made by the
Central Counselling Board of AIEEE
2011. The refinement will be in the form of spot round seat
allotment which is also aimed at reducing the number of vacant
seats in the NITs, IIITs and government funded institutions, both
Central and state from five per cent last year to a targeted level
of two percent.
The need was felt as students were playing with the system in
previous years as the process of filling up of choices and locking
of choices was an online process.
Hence, the Central Counselling Board has reduced the number of
online counselling rounds from seven to five. Once these five
rounds of online counselling are over, the CCB will on August 9 will introduce a new process
known as 'internal sliding'. As per this new process, students who
are already admitted to an institute depending on vacancy can opt
for higher branch of learning based on choices filled by them than
what has been allotted to them. The remaining vacancies will be up
for grab in the spot round.
As per the reforms, there is provision for even those students
who have not got the engineering branch of their choice. Those who
have not got the stream of their choice in the five rounds of
counselling can log on to CCB website
from August 11 to 13 where the final list of vacancies in all the
institutes is displayed and those who are not satisfied can go in
for fresh filling of choices and locking the same. Once done,
students would then need to go to their nearest reporting centre
and get their documents verified and pay a fee of Rs 35,000 or Rs
25,000 upfront and confirm their choice.
